It can manifest from the most basic grades of education to the exercise of teaching. Stress is a tension that appears from exposure to crippling circumstances, this is considered one of the predisposing causes of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) that are known as problems in the operation of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to determine the characteristics of academic stress in students of the San Buenaventura University (USB), Cartagena Section with a clinical diagnosis of Temporomandibular Disorders (TTM). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A quantitative study of a transversal descriptive type was carried out in 27 students of the physiotherapy program, previously diagnosed with TMD of the articular, muscular and / or disc type taken from the research "Prevalence of TTM in university students of the USB ", to whom the SISCO inventory of academic stress (IEA) was applied, in order to determine the characteristics of stress or moments of worry during the current semester. RESULTS: Academic stress in university students of the USB with a clinical diagnosis of TMD was presented in 70.4% of the population at high levels, followed by 25.9% in medium high levels and only 3.7%. in medium levels. There is no evidence of absence of stress in the population studied. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with a clinical diagnosis of TMD had high and moderately high levels of Stress. This could indicate that stress affects the proper functioning of the musculoskeletal system in the cervical mandibular cranium region which leads to the appearance of TMD.
