    Función auditiva y vestibular de personas adultas que consumen medicamentos ototóxicos por enfermedades crónicas

    The ear is not only an organ that is responsible for capturing and processing sound stimuli, it also has a great responsibility to maintain the balance and posture of the body, these functions can be affected when an adverse drug reaction occurs, such as: antitumors, aminoglycosides and diuretics that are used to treat some chronic diseases; ototoxicity is the counterproductive consequence that certain chemicals produce on the ear temporarily or permanently. The clinical manifestations of ototoxicity are: Sensorial or neurosensory hearing loss, vertigo and tinnitus. The purpose of this article is to offer the reader a scientific and informative vision. Objective: To review the scientific evidence that is found on the characteristics of auditory and vestibular function of adults who consume ototoxic drugs. Methodology: For the realization of this review article, it was emphasized in relevant information collected in several electronic databases (Google Academic, Science Direct and Scielo) the methodology used is qualitative of exploratory typedocumentary, the procedure used for the distinction and interpretation of information consisted of the content analysis of research articles, theses and research from secondary sources. Results: From the bibliographic search, we obtained scientific articles, theses, guides and books that describe the auditory and vestibular characteristics of adults who consumed ototoxic drugs. Conclusion: The research articles acquired through the literature review agree that aminoglycosides, diuretics and antitumor drugs cause ototoxicity leading to auditory and vestibular impairment
