- PublicaciónAcceso abiertoCondición física y temor a caídas en adultos mayores con antecedente de trauma en una institución de Cartagena(2019-10-23) Mesino Castillo, Mileidys; Paternina Bravo, Elena Maria; Serrano Tafurt, Sheryn Beatriz; De Ávila Quintana, LuzdarisIntroduction: Aging according to the WHO is the consequence of the accumulation of a great variety of molecular and cellular damage over time, which leads to a gradual decrease in physical and mental capacities, an increased risk of disease, and finally to death, this decrease in physical condition reduces availability to the performance of daily life activities, as the elderly becomes susceptible to falling due to the changes mentioned above, but in some cases this fear is so exaggerated capable of inhibiting a person from doing an apparently risk-free activity, turning this phenomenon into a vicious circle where the decrease in physical condition leads to fear of falling and fear of falling leads to physical deconditioning. Objective: Describe the physical condition and fear of falls in a population of older adults with a traumatic history of an institution in Cartagena de Indias. Methodology: a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with a quantitative approach, in which the physical abilities of this population are described individually by means of the Senior Fitness Test battery and the perception of fear of falling with a scale called Falls Efficacy Scale ( FES-I); The research was carried out at the Granitos de Paz Foundation in the city of Cartagena de Indias, in which older adults between 60 and 91 years of age participated. Results: This study was carried out in a population of 60 older adults, to whom their sociodemographic data were requested, the Senior Fitness Test and the Fes-1 were applied, after the application of these it was found that the predominance was the female sex with 73.7% (46 older adults) and 23.3% (14 older adults); with an average age of 72.8 years. Regarding the fear of falling, it was found that 70% of this evaluated population is somewhat worried about a fall, that is, 42 older adults, followed by 21% (13), who are quite worried about a fall. With regard to physical qualities in both sexes, it was found to be poor in the tests of flexibility of the upper limb and in agility and balance, highlighting that the other physical capacities are within or above the range proposed by Rikli and Jones (2001). Conclusion: it is important that studies continue to be carried out in relation to this problem with a higher level of complexity and in institutions with a greater number of population, and thus be able to establish the relationship between the results obtained from the physical condition and the fear they feel at the moment to carry out activities of daily life, allowing to create the relevant strategies to avoid the physical deterioration of this population and to promote it in the case of the individuals that still preserve it.

- PublicaciónAcceso abiertoSatisfacción en el uso de ayudas auditivas de los beneficiarios de la misión Starkey 2018 en la ciudad de Cartagena de Indias(2020-03-30) Manjarrez Perea, Elexy; Lenes Escorcia, Luz Mary; Castillo Zulbaran, Evelin; Ramírez Ardila, María del PilarOBJECTIVE: Determine what is the level of satisfaction in the use of hearing aid of the beneficiaries of the Starkey 2018 mission in the city of Cartagena de Indias. METHODOLOGY: A descriptive cross-sectional research was carried out, through a non-probability sampling, made up of 101 participants who were beneficiaries of the Starkey 2018 mission in the city of Cartagena, an “ABBREVIATED PROFILE OF HEARING AID BENEFIT” (APHAB) scale was applied, which was developed by Cox and Alexander in 1995 at the University of Memphis endorsed in Bogotá in 2016. The APHAB uses 24 articles that cover 4 subscales: Unwanted sounds that occur simultaneously with the use of hearing aid, difficulty in conversation, difficulty in compression, permanence of sound once the original source stopped emitting, negative user reactions to environmental sounds. The data were tabulated using Microsoft Excel and analyzed using the SPSS statistical program (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). RESULTS: According to the results of the research, in the dimension unwanted sounds 37% of the participants indicate that they rarely present unwanted sounds, Regarding difficulty in conversation, more than 50% of the participants indicate that they do not present difficulties when communicating with the hearing aids. CONCLUSIONS: Finally after the application of the APHAB satisfaction survey, The participants in this research are satisfied with the use of the hearing aid since it was evident that the population that comments on difficulties is less than the population that says they do not have problems with the use of hearing aid received by the Starkey 2018 mission at the University of San Buenaventura, Cartagena.
