Abstract
The main objective of this work is to talk about a general way about the patents that are content in the intellectual property, that is why it is given a basic definition about it, with all its classifications and in the laws, it is based on, giving in that way a brief introduction before speaking about the patents, including a concept map for its easily understanding. Furthermore, in this work we will speaking widely about the actual laws that Colombia has about patents, including its characteristics, reasons to patent an invention, requirements and the process that it must be done before its constitution. Likewise, the actual situation of patents will be exposed, including the work of the different institutions to create sense about the topic in the business community sector and the public in general. We will also include statistics about the patents requests in last years, contained in the last report of superintendence of industry and commerce both national and internationally, the kind of applicant and if the request is presented in a national or international way

El objetivo general de este trabajo es analizar las patentes como parte dela propiedad intelectual. Inicialmente se ofrece una definición básica de esta, con todas sus clasificaciones y las normas que la regulan, dando una pequeña introducción para luego tratar el tema de las patentes, incluyendo un mapa conceptual para facilitar su entendimiento. Se estudiará de forma más amplia las normas jurídicas colombianas relacionadas con las patentes, incluyendo sus características, las razones por las cuales se puede patentar una invención, requisitos y proceso que se debe realizar para su constitución. De igual forma se ahondará en la situación actual de las patentes, incluyendo los esfuerzos realizados por distintas entidades para crear sensibilidad sobre el tema ante la comunidad empresarial y el público en general. Se mencionarán también algunos estudios sobre las solicitudes de patentes en los últimos años contenidos en último informe de la Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio
